Frequently asked questions
- Yes. The desktop app is a thin, native shell around the same Benian OS you already use at os.benian.ai — it signs into your existing account and runs through it, with no separate data store. Public builds will ship code-signed (Apple Developer ID + notarization on macOS, a code-signing certificate on Windows) so they install without security warnings.
- Automatically. Once installed, Benian OS checks for new versions and downloads and applies them in the background. You never have to re-download an installer — you are always on the latest build.
- On a Mac with an M1, M2, M3 or newer chip, choose the Apple Silicon (arm64) build. On an older Intel-based Mac, choose the Intel (x64) build. If you are unsure, open the Apple menu → About This Mac: "Apple M…" means Apple Silicon, "Intel" means the Intel build. On Windows, use the standard 64-bit installer.
- No. You only need a Benian OS account. The desktop app signs you into your existing workspace and everything — workflows, AI agents, dashboards — runs through your account exactly like the web app. There is no separate setup, database, or dependency to install.
- Soon. The macOS and Windows builds are being code-signed and notarized so they install cleanly without Gatekeeper or SmartScreen warnings. In the meantime you can use Benian OS in any browser at os.benian.ai. If you want early access to the desktop builds, book a call and we will get you set up.
